You see, as Jessie’s Dad, I wondered why I couldn’t protect my daughter at home better than the government could! You see, I knew FedEx had been absolutely, positively delivering mail far faster than the government had for years, and private schools provided a superior education than most public schools. Why couldn’t Water for Life provide my daughter, and my fellow Atlanta families, drinking water that was safer and absolutely, positively, always fresh and forever pure…guaranteed with the technologies I already had access to! 

I was ready. My company, founded in 1989 as a commercial water treatment firm called Van Cleave Sales Associates, had already been specializing in treating commercial drinking water for taste and odor issues in restaurants for nearly two years when Jessie became infected with Giardia. 

Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts infest lakes and rivers like Lake Alatoona and Lanier, the Chattahoochee and the Etowah Rivers, which comprise most of our source waters in the Atlanta metro area. Have you really looked at those waters lately? They are great for running boats over, but drinking? Not so much! 

The parasites found in these rivers and lakes have a hard shell on their back, like a beetle, that make them chlorine tolerant. In addition, we now know, since the WQA Final Barrier Initiative study identified 5 strains of virus that can stand up to chlorine, that even some virus are now strong enough to make us deathly sick from the tap water. For several years now, we’ve even heard about scary brain eating virus in humans who swam in these waters and of late, we know about blue-green algae in the Chattahoochee River that has killed dogs who had originally just jumped in for a swim! 

Viruses like these were unheard of when I started in business in 1989, but recent research teaches that all these virus, bacteria, and cysts actually cause over 7.6 metric tons of diarrhea in North and Middle Georgia in 1 year. 

After studying to be a Certified Water Specialist, I was absolutely, positively sure I could protect my own family’s water better than the government and I knew I could beat the stinking city water quality by offering the best water systems that were available. 

By the way, we don’t buy systems from China. Never have. Most are American made. We have a few from Canada, which has horrible water, but great water systems. We get both our electric and our non electric water softeners from Ohio, which has some of the hardest water of any state in the Union, and also has the largest population in the country which does not use electricity, the Amish. 

In fact, we looked for and found the best and the most affordable products In every category, but we didn’t stop there! We made sure those products were user friendly and easy for a layman to understand. We ruled out multi level only sold be amateurs and franchise products that add 30% to the franchisor or the retail booth provider. 

We buy direct from factories and negotiate our shipping carriers directly. 

As much as possible, we also made sure our products were made by large companies that would stand behind their products with generous performance warranties, and finally, we made sure that our best products had third party endorsements from the Water Quality Association, the National Sanitation Foundation or Consumer Reports so that somebody besides us was certifying their performance 

Ironically, that’s Jessie helping me test water at my test counter, just 3 years later! Look carefully, I never had to worry that I would electrocute my myself! What’s more, when my 11 year old daughter saw this I didn’t have to worry. Jessie loved sticking her finger into the same water as an electrical device was in. Why? Because she knew she could trust that her Daddy’s water was so pure that it would not even conduct electricity! You see pure water doesn’t conduct electricity. Why? So my commercial water systems firm, morphed into Water for Life, a complete residential and commercial drinking water systems firm, serving busy North and Middle Georgia families in their homes, offices, restaurants and industries, and managing national accounts. And we grew fast!
