In recent years, reverse osmosis water filters have gained a great deal of popularity among homeowners because there's a feeling that they "filter everything." Unfortunately, this is simply not true in many cases, and moreover, this belief has created a "race to the bottom" for most water filter companies to create the cheapest system that uses reverse osmosis, so they can cash in on Amazon.
The term "reverse osmosis" describes the technology used, but does not tell you anything about performance. The truth is... some RO’s are rated to remove toxic things like lead, chromium 6, PFOS/PFOA, and Virus. Many, especially the cheap ones, aren't rated to remove much of anything and they aren’t even the Best Buy over time!
Not really if you change them according to a preset amount of gallons. If not, it’s true You could Ruin the expensive to replace Reverse Osmosis Membrane or the cheap ones that are designed to replace the membrane every year in the average sized family. The prefilters on the rated RO systems actually protect the membrane in the reverse osmosis stage, but not the cheapest ones! If a cheap reverse osmosis user doesn't change these prefilters in time, chlorine "breaks through" and flows into and ruins the RO membrane.
Unfortunately, cheap CTA membranes are ruined by even small amounts of free chlorine in tap water, these CTA RO membranes are irreversibly damaged, and will need replacing, oftentimes by a pro. Also, much to the surprise of users, there isn't really an easy way to know if this degradation has taken place without a local service company like Water for Life that knows how to and has the testing equipment to perform the testing.
We actually pull out reverse osmosis systems or replaced membranes practically every week whose owners were shocked to find high levels of lead or TDS coming out of their RO when we tested like we routinely do for our customers on a regular PM.
It turned out that they had changed their prefilters too late because they hated getting dizzy down under the sink or the process of maintaining them was much harder than they expected, so they ended up ruining their reverse osmosis membrane without any kind of monitor or notification at all like Water for Life’s best systems or our professional service provides for no additional cost on a semi annual or annual basis, depending on manufacturer’s recommendations and family size!
Most people who buy a reverse osmosis system online assume that they’ll be able to handle the installation. Many quickly change their mind after learning that they’ll need to do to drill a hole in their home’s drain pipe (for the filtration system’s waste line) and another hole in their counter top or sink (for a dedicated faucet). We do that for you. So, unless you are confident in your abilities, be sure to budget for a professional granite countertop drill and Under sink installation. Because we had been doing it for years, we actually taught Home Depot in Marietta how to do it in 1994!
You’ll be certain not to ruin a granite counter top or crack a drain pipe with a Water for Life pro on the case…Guaranteed!
We recommend against having a contractor do it, but if you decide to risk it, make sure they explain to you how to do it safely without cracking your granite and that they have liability insurance to back up any mistakes they may make, like Water for Life does.
Contrast competitor’s Reverse Osmosis systems with a MacGuard 7500 auto shutdown WQA Gold Seal Certified filter system or a KINETICO K5 with a MacGuard Auto shutdown and a Puremometer that counts the gallons automatically and is Std 42, 53 lead, MTBE, PFOS/PFOA VOC WQA certified because it has a patented notification and gallonage monitoring auto shutdown system. The MacGuard 7500 can connect to your existing faucet or you can purchase a beautiful lifetime guarantee separate faucet to keep your filters from being used up as much as 5x faster in a 15-30 minute installation. Our K5 RO can be installed professionally under the sink in less space with its own fine kitchen and bath grade faucet, or installed with no drilling or plumbing experience needed to your own faucet or refrigerator cold water dispenser. Either the K5 RO Everclean Rinse Monitored Reverse Osmosis legally purified water that’s roughly 8-10X purer than filtered water with a separate faucet that doesn’t use up the replacement cartridges as much as 5X faster washing hands, dishes, or nylons or the MacGuard 7500. It’s your choice! AND, guess what, if you choose the K5 RO, Your Under Sink Storage does not Disappear, even If you have a garbage disposal, because the system is designed with a tall and slender Quick flow storage tank that takes up 25% less space, holds 50% more water, and flows 200% faster to the last drop than any fixed air bladder tank system on the market. 80% of our customers have us install it right under the sink! We take measurements on site for you to make sure that we sell you the right MACGUARD 7500 or K5 reverse osmosis system that fits under your actual sink. If not, often can often put them in pantries or in the basement so you lose no Under sink storage space at all! Both systems, when installed by us, can most often be teed off to the refrigerator icemaker for pure ice in 60% of homes. If need be, our experienced specialists can do it at least 3 other ways so that virtually 100% of homes that want Reverse Osmosis purified water, can have it in the way that suits their home and their habits best!
One Of The Most Common Misconceptions About Reverse Osmosis That We Hear From People Who Purchase Their Reverse Osmosis Systems Online Is That The Water Pressure Is Very Bad And So They End Up Not Using The Purified Water, Which Defeats The Entire Purpose Of Having A System. That Never Happens At Water For Life Because We Have Water Data By Zip Code, We Perform Sight Visits To See What We Are Up Against, And We Recommend Products That Fit Your Water Quality Objectives And Your Own Home’s Space. Pictures Never Tell The Whole Story! All Water Treament Is Locally Installed And Maintained. Why Buy From Somebody Who Doesnt Install Or Maintain And Gets Paid A Commission Just To Sell Something! Do You Trust Salesmen Or Installers More? You Can Trust Water For Life Because We Not Only Sell, But Also Install And Maintain All Makes Or Models. It’s In Our Interest To Sell You Something That Will Please You Long Term Because We Have Been To Your Home And You’re Part Of The Water For Life Family And We Are Going To Live With You For A Long Time.
People who just sell filters will tell you that Reverse Osmosis systems work by using pressure to force water through a membrane, which leaves behind impurities in a solution that many referred to as backwash. This solution flows through a waste line that connects to your home’s drain pipe, so the removed contaminants go right down the drain. People who draw their water from private wells are particularly troubled by this. Most consumer-grade systems generate 3-15 gallons of waste water per gallon of produced purified water, but the truth is that our best is only 2.7:1 and you can’t waste the resource because the waste water gets recycled by nature and the reverse osmosis process uses raw water to make pure water, so it has a purpose much like a shower, which is not a waste, because we use that water to wash our bodies and that is usually 75 gallons per shower, where an average family uses 300 gallons a day to shower, they will use less than 9-12 gallons of raw water to make 3-4 gallons of drinking and cooking water a day! There is no such thing as wasting water if you have an RO system!
Of course you can and we can show you how to do it so you get the best value and benefit out of it when you move or uninstall it and hook you up with an installer from one of our 3 national networks. The KINETICO K5 or MacGuard 7500 is the last system you’ll ever have to buy!
In a Water Quality Association Gold Seal Lab Certification Study, Both The Macguard And The K5 Ro were certified for all protections they claim for a minimum of 10 years and outperformed all other major brands such as Brita, Samsung, Whirlpool, and Berkey by a minimum of 33%. Our whole house systems are certified to reduce contaminants automatically for years compared to having the expense of maintaining several POU devices around the house when you have a K5 reverse osmosis drinking water appliance that also gives you a WQA certified and guaranteed 10 years of life before it needs replacing.
That creates over $3000 of savings in the 10 year warranty period of the K5, which the 3rd party watchdog “Consumer Reports” said makes it the Best Buy among all RO systems, with a 95 rating!
The bottom line is that if you're looking at reverse osmosis drinking water appliances to get the best water, you want to make sure that you get one that works, and that works for your family, like the K5. That has 3rd party verification so you don’t have to rely on the salesperson themselves, like the K5. If you want a reverse osmosis system, the only brands that we recommend are the K5 for a family of 4 and the Aquaflo or Aquakinetic A200 for smaller families. 3rd parties have tested and certified these RO systems, and they also engineer and assemble their systems in the United States or Canada. Look for the WQA Gold Seal on the product and the literature we send you.
