Water Filtration and Treatment in Alpharetta, GA
Looking for cleaner, better-tasting water in Alpharetta? Water for Life has been solving water problems across North Fulton and the greater Atlanta metro for 38 years, with more than 13,000 systems installed.
What's actually in your water — and what you don't need
Here's something most companies won't tell you: Alpharetta's municipal water is naturally soft. So if someone's trying to sell you a water softener for your city water, be cautious — you simply don't need one.
What Alpharetta water does have: Chlorine and chloramines added during treatment, low-level disinfection byproducts (trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids), trace pharmaceutical residues, and biological contaminants like cryptosporidium and giardia that resist standard chlorine treatment.
Alpharetta receives treated surface water from the Chattahoochee River and area reservoirs. Surface water is more susceptible to runoff contamination, seasonal variation, and biological threats than groundwater sources.
The real concerns with Alpharetta municipal water
Municipal treatment removes many threats — but not all of them, and the treatment process itself introduces new ones.
- Chlorine & chloramines: Added to kill bacteria, but they affect taste, smell, and combine with organic matter to form disinfection byproducts.
- Trihalomethanes (THMs) & haloacetic acids: Classified as potential carcinogens. Formed when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter in surface water.
- Cryptosporidium & giardia: Parasites with chlorine-resistant shells. Cause gastrointestinal illness — especially risky for children, elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
- Pharmaceutical residues: Trace medications from the water supply that standard municipal treatment doesn't fully remove.
- PFAS / forever chemicals: Detected in metro Atlanta water systems at varying levels. Not fully regulated and accumulate in the body over time.
Our recommendation for city water: A certified reverse osmosis system at the tap removes cryptosporidium, giardia, disinfection byproducts, pharmaceuticals, and PFAS. It's the most complete solution for municipal surface water like Alpharetta's.
If your Alpharetta home uses well water
Well water in the North Fulton area comes with its own set of concerns — and no municipal treatment to catch problems before they reach your tap.
- Iron & manganese: Common in Georgia groundwater. Causes orange staining on fixtures, laundry, and appliances, and a metallic taste.
- Low pH / acidity: Acidic water corrodes pipes and fixtures. Common in areas with granite bedrock like North Fulton County.
- Bacteria & coliform: We've tested hundreds of well systems in this region and found microbiological contamination in roughly 40% of them. Most homeowners had no idea.
- Hardness: Unlike city water, North Fulton well water can be hard, causing scale buildup in water heaters, appliances, and pipes.
Our recommendation for well water: A UV disinfection system combined with iron filtration addresses the most common North Fulton well water issues. We test first — so we design exactly what your water needs, not a generic package.
